Seattle is known for its many outdoor activities, and it also has a large presence of professional sports teams. The Seattle Seahawks brought the NFL to the city in 1976. After their inaugural year, the Seahawks were members of the American Football Conference, up until 2002 when they joined the National Football Conference. They are the only team that has played in the championship game of both conferences. The Seahawks play home games at Qwest Field, which has a seat capacity of 67,000. This fall the Seahawks will kick off the season with a home game against the 49ers on September 12.If its baseball you prefer, checkout the Seattle Mariners throughout the spring and summer. The Mariners have called Safeco Field home since 1999. Not only will you get to enjoy an afternoon or evening of America’s favorite pastime, but the breathtaking views of the skyline and Puget Sound make it an aesthetically pleasing experience as well. Though they have yet to play in a World Series Championship Game, the Mariners share the record for most regular season wins, which they achieved in 2001 with 116 wins.A recent addition to the city’s sports scene is the Seattle Sounders, who were established as an MLS expansion team in 2007, but didn’t play their first game until the 2009 season. The Sounders share Qwest field with the Seahawks. So far the team has been very successful in both match attendance and winning record. The WNBA’s Seattle Storm is the only professional team in the city to have won a national championship. The Storm won the WNBA Championship in 2004 and have ended their seasons with winning records each year since, except in 2007 when they were 17-17.
